Photo Of The Day: Roy Keane Acts As Peacemaker During Ryan Giggs’ Testimonial

Today’s photo of the day is from the Ryan Giggs Testimonial match between Manchester United and Celtic in August 2001.

An estimated 20,000 Celtic fans went down to Old Trafford that day and they witnessed an absolute thriller as the Bhoys beat the English champions 4-3.

The match was no friendly. It was played in a competitive spirit, with David Beckham lashing out at Chris Sutton among other flashpoints. Ironically, Roy Keane actually acted as peacemaker when Neil Lennon and David Beckham had words with one another, and it is that moment which is the focus of this feature:

Lennon had the last laugh as he scored in the victory, so to did Sutton, adding to strikes from Lubo Moravcik and Paul Lambert. Van Nistelrooy scored for the Red Devils (2) and so did Sebastian Veron.
