Photo Of The Day: The Polar Bear Trophy

Today’s photo of the day is highly unusual in the sense that it features an ornament depicting a polar bear eating a seal! This Polar Bear Trophy was presented to Celtic by Valur of Iceland to mark the meeting between the clubs in the opening round of the 1975/76 European Cup Winners Cup. Celtic won the match 2-0 with goals scored by Wilson and MacDonald, before storming the home leg 7-0 at Paradise.

The comfortable victory saw Celtic through to face Boavista, who the Hoops defeated 3-1 on aggregate, before being eliminated by German club FSV Zwickau (currently in 3Liga).
