Photos: Admirable turnout from Rennes fans at Celtic Park while Green Brigade section covered

It seems clear that Uefa really like to hammer home punishments to certain clubs once they decide they have an issue with something.

It would be easy to get bogged down in arguments about the merits of the decision to close part of the Green Brigade’s section for the game against Rennes tonight. One thing for sure is the authorities like to pick their battles.

It seems clear that the club felt they had to do something, but it’s hard to say that this is the best solution.

If it’s the occasional banner or flag then they are more than happy to get involved, but they will always shy away from bigger issues like racism when it rears it’s ugly head at games.

When you consider that the French side have got absolutely nothing to play for, that’s a very decent travelling support for a Thursday night game.

As for the Green Brigade section, we will soon find out how much that closure hurts the atmosphere at the stadium. One thing for sure is just closing part of it for one game doesn’t really help anyone.
