Pitch perfect – Brendan hails new surface

Brendan Rodgers has praised the new Celtic Park surface after the 4-1 victory over Standard Liege this afternoon.

The new surface, which cost £1.5m to install and has taken 12 months to bed, was debuted as Edouard, Dembele, McGregor and Johnston helped deliver an emphatic victory.

Brendan had asked for a new pitch after complaining about the pace in the surface in his first season.

Speaking at the post match press conference, Rodgers gave his support of the new pitch. The manager was very complimentary of his side’s flair as they christened the new surface.

“I thought our fluency and the speed and crispness of our game was outstanding.”

Rodgers continued by thanking the club and staff for listening to his request for a new pitch.

“Congratulations to club and the groundstaff. as I’ve been crying about a pitch here for a long time.

“You saw the speed of it, and it’ll get slightly quicker which is great for us. A very pleasing day.”

There were moments last season where Celtic’s build up play, particularly at home, was slow and lacked an edge; however, hopefully the new and improved hybrid surface will prove to be durable as the season goes on.
