Should Celtic activate the one year extension to Leigh Griffiths’ contract that will cost the club £1m? The decision, according to a report in Scottish Sun, has to be made by the club by 30 April otherwise the striker will leave the club at the end of this season on a free transfer.
Griffiths has already been linked to a move to Aberdeen to join up with current Celtic captain Scott Brown who has agreed a two-year contract as player/coach at the Pittodrie side. And there’s also the chance that Jack Ross might be interested in bringing Griffiths back to Hibs, the team that Griffiths supports, for a few seasons.

Whether anyone at Celtic will reckon that spending an additional £1m on a seldom fit striker who has played a but part in this season which was a decade in the making is doubtful. Griffiths returned to pre-season training unfit enough to travel with the squad to France for a series of pre-season friendlies against Nice, Lyon and PSG and never git himself fully fit throughout the campaign – certainly not enough to make an impact.
Frustratingly Griffiths had scored a hat-trick in what turned out to be the final game of last season – the 5-0 home win over St Mirren on 7 Match 2020 – as his partnership with Odsonne Edouard was driving Celtic towards 9IAR.
However when it came to Griffiths’ contribution towards Celtic’s Ten-in-a-Row the striker clearly has let himself, the club and the supporters down. Added to that his on-going injuries that have been a persistent feature over the last number of years and surely the decision has to be taken to call time on Leigh Griffiths’ Celtic career at the end of this season.

Presumably Eddie Howe – if we are setting aside last night’s ‘calm down’ message – will have a say in this, and he may even talk the matter over with his close friend Brendan Rodgers.
