Portuguese Media report on Celtic’s January Purchase Plans for Jota

Portuguese media are reporting this morning that Ange Postecoglou’s plans to re-shape the Celtic squad with several rumoured departures – Barkas and Ajeti leading the way to the exit door and numerous new signings including a few from the J-League and perhaps an addition or two from south of the border – will also include bringing forward the permanent transfer of Jota from Benfica.

The Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that this after an impressive start to his time at Celtic, Jota has done more than enough to convince Ange Postecoglou to take up the option to sign the player and accordingly that could now happen in January rather than wait until the end of the season.

Of course Jota must want to sign that permeant deal but as things stand that should not be a problem as he’s loving life at Celtic and playing his football under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance and has already become a huge favourite with the Celtic Support. As long as he can handle a Scottish winter there should be no other issues!

Here’s what A Bola are reporting:

“Celtic are satisfied with the performance of Jota, 22-year-old forward on loan from Benfica, and are thinking about moving forward to the definitive purchase of the under-21 international.

“Fans and commentators are putting pressure on Celtic not to wait for the end of the season and investing in the definitive purchase of the forward loaned by the eagles.

“Jota headed to Glasgow at the end of August, after undergoing medical examinations in France, and the loan agreement stipulated an option of €7.5 million for 70 percent of Jota’s pass for the definitive purchase of the player incarnate.

“Celtic have until the end of the season to trigger this preference, but the Scots admit buying the striker now. Several commentators and former players, such as Paul Lambert and Owen Hargreaves, have been pressing Celtic to move forward through Jota, as the price is low and the player’s potential is quite large.

“The performance of the day before yesterday, with Ferencváros, in the Europa League, increased Jota’s status. Celtic beat the Hungarian champions 3-2, with Jota scoring the Scots’ second goal.”
