“Positive Chat” – Postecoglou phone call gives Griffiths renewed Celtic hope

Leigh Griffiths has confirmed to Sky Sports that he has spoken to New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou and that he is encouraged by what he’s heard from the new gaffer. Asked if as a result, he reckons he will have a future at Celtic after all, Griffiths was emphatic.

“I do,” he replied. “I spoke to the manager on Tuesday morning and things seemed positive. We’ll have another chat at the beginning of next week when he’s out of isolation and we’ll take it from there.

“It was a massive thing for him just to give me a phone. He didn’t have to but he took time out his day and gave me his ideas and his plans moving forward.

“So it was a positive chat, we just need to wait until he’s out of isolation, we’ll have a chat face-to-face and we’ll see where we’re at,” Griffiths added.

“Every level I’ve played at, I’ve scored. There’s still a lot to come from me, I’m only 30-years-old and I’ve still got a lot of years left.”

The Celtic striker was seen in the crowd at Hampden on Monday as Scotland lost their opening European Championship match against Czech Republic, but Griffiths has no complaints about missing out, although he has not given up on his international career just yet, with his eye still very much on making the squad for the World Cup campaign.

“I’m working very, very hard and we’ll see what happens in a few weeks.

“People say that I’m not fit enough to play games but I don’t think I’ve missed a training session for the last six months. I was always on the bench. If Celtic every called on me I was fit and ready to go.

“I want to get back playing for Scotland and help the team reach the World Cup in Qatar. But first and foremost I need to get myself in the best possible way I can to make sure I’m in the plans for my club and my country.”
