Postecoglou declares Olivier Ntcham wants to stay at Celtic

Olivier Ntcham wants to stay at Celtic, according to Ange Postecoglou. The Celtic manager spoke after the friendly win over Charlton Athletic today in Wales. The Frenchman started the second half and appeared to be getting up to speed playing in a deeper role than we have previously seen from the 25-year-old.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Postecoglou said that he and Ntcham had spoken about the midfielder remaining for Celtic and fighting for his place ahead of the new season.

“I had chats with him and he said he wanted to come back and make an impression this year.

“I take that at face value. He has been good at training.

“He is lacking a bit of match touch and fitness but he is part of the squad and hopefully he can make an impact this year.”

Ntcham had been heavily linked with a move to AEK Athens but Celtic appeared unwilling to allow him to leave for free when he was still contracted for another season. A loan move to Marseille did not appear to work out for any parties and if the manager wants him around, he can help get the trajectory of a really talented player back on track.

Since arriving from Man City in 2017, Celtic have witnessed a number of versions of Ntcham ranging from the brilliant to the unbothered. If Ange can get him playing, he could have a serious player on his hands once again. The player appears to be hungry to get himself back into the team, remaining at Celtic.
