Postecoglou trying to protect Kyogo

Ange Postecoglou spoke to the mainstream media yesterday about why fan favourite Kyogo Furuhashi won’t be expected to play 90 minutes in every Celtic game this season.

Some fans queried why Kyogo was missing from the starting eleven on Saturday against Livingston, dropped in favour of Greek striker Giorgios Giakoumakis. With the game ending in a disappointing goalless draw it lead to even more questions on why our most potent striker wasn’t on the pitch from the start.

Postecoglou said as reported by Scottish Sun: “We have to be really careful with Kyogo because he left Japan three quarters of the way through a season.

“He’s come back, had international football and already had an injury. I know people want him out there all the time, and he has done fantastically well every time he’s played.

“But we have to be careful as it’s just starting November and we can’t be playing Kyogo in every game right through to April and May and expect him to perform at the top level.”

Even with Ange Postecoglou explaining that Kyogo’s game time will be managed throughout the season it would come as a huge surprise if he was left out of tonight’s crucial match against Fenencvaros tonight.

A win in Budapest will guarantee Celtic European football after Christmas, even if it is only in the newly established Europa Conference League.

Although Greek striker Giorgios Giakoumakis looks a quality acquisition he unfortunately doesn’t offer as much to the overall team play as Kyogo does. The Japanese striker offers constant movement across the front line often dragging defenders out to positions they don’t want to be in. We saw two weeks ago that the Fenencvaros defence struggled to contain him.

Hopefully we see him torture them again tonight and help us to another 3 points against the Hungarian champions.

Hailing from Cushendall in the North of Ireland my formative years were spent watching Celtic during our barren spell through the 90's which meant I have appreciated our recent trophy-laden spell even more. Favourite matches home and away I've attended has to be beating Man Utd 1-0 at Celtic Park and being with my 2 brothers watching us beat Lazio 2-1 in Rome. Best away day experience? Has to be Munich with friends from Coatbridge...what a few days!

  1. I personally think it’s ridiculous that we have a first team starter on the Croatian National team and we don’t play him in his rightful position at RB. Play the strength you have and deal with the left side. This kid bumps the RB from Athletico Madrid but for some reason can’t bump Ralston on Celtic who wouldn’t even get a sniff on Madrid. Juranovic on the left is good. But Juranovic on the right can be brilliant. Stop reinventing the wheel.

  2. And never mind if Ralston could play for Madrid. Which he couldn’t. I highly doubt he would make the first team on the Croatian team. We are wasting a talent. I love Ralston and his recent development. He gives energy and a willing to play. So put him on the left. I’d bet dollars to donuts he would handle it fairly well due to his commitment and you gain a world class youngster playing in his comfort zone at RB. It’s not rocket science.

  3. Put Jaranovic on the right and you will see how our striker will be protect by excellent comfort play on the right side. The other team won’t have time to bother him because Jaranovic, like Robertson and Alexander Arnold will be feeding him throw balls with his RIGHT FOOT ON HIS PROPER SIDE!!!

  4. It’s like picking up Modric and throwing him on the outside midfield because Callum is great in the middle. Yes he is but Modric is better so throw Callum outside and be a better team.

  5. He’s a bloody International first team player for a top world club and he is slotted as a RB. Do I have to hit you on the head with a hammer? Gawd.

  6. I don’t do social media. Don’t have Facebook or Snapchat and I certainly don’t do Twitter for twats. So I have to respond to an article after the Celtic win in Europe that brought an outstanding believe that Ralston was magic. Man of the match if you wish. But if you remember the two goals scored against us you may think different. First goal was off Jaranovic leg playing down the left side. Not his fault. Second was had because Ralston on the right side didn’t close the gap on the attacker so he had licsense to launch the ball into the right corner. Just image if Jaranovic was on the right and not on the left. Our goal differential would be much better. And for what it’s worth… the Green Brigade is a clique. Anyone who gives them self to a clique, cult or group ends up being a person without self discipline because they are weak so they need numbers to help their pathetic life to mean something. Mon the Hoops!! For a man totally independent. Sheep.

  10. And let’s remember to wear the poppy. Damn sin not to. Always remember the team is titled GLASGOW Celtic. A team in Scotland. A country which gave their blood and guts in the war so we could all enjoy our football today.
