Postecoglou’s student Muscat was set for warm Scottish welcome

Muscat was lavished with praised as the expected new manager in waiting over at Ibrox – how did that one work out (lol) – but contrast that to Ange Postecoglou’s arrival into Scottish football to take over as Celtic boss in June 2021…

Kevin Muscat last week  was set  be announced manager of theRangers and as you would expect, he was being given a hero’s welcome, both by the Scottish mainstream media and the supporters of the latest Ibrox club. The Australian was the clear favourite for the job at the top 20 betting sites uk and certainly looked set to leave his highly lucrative current job in China to join theRangers.

Muscat was lavished with nothing but praise since news broke of his pending appointment, following the shock news that Steven Gerrard had left theRangers at the alter.

That enthusiast welcome for any incoming manager of a Rangers is of course par for the course in Scottish football with any new figure recruited by the Ibrox club being proclaimed as a blue messiah who will put an end to Celtic’s 21st century domination.

However the irony and hypocrisy shown by all concerned in the media and theRangers fanbase hasn’t bypassed Celtic supporters, who aren’t slow in calling this out. Cast your mind back to 2021 when Celtic appointed Ange Postecoglou, a surprise choice after Eddie Howe had left the Celtic Board up the garden path. Ange had won trophies in Australia and Japan and had also picked up silverware internationally as Australia lifted the Asia Cup under his guidance.

He wasn’t so well known in European football but it took Celtic fans a few hours to do their research to see that this was a manager who had the experience and ability to succeed as manager of Celtic Football Club, with the backing of the Celtic support.

Yes, some Celtic supporters were questioning his appointment initially, but they too were willing to give him that chance to prove himself all the same. The same can’t be said however of the media who ridiculed his appointment from the second he was unveiled. Who can forget Alan Brazil and his cheeky chappie sidekick Ally McCoist ridicule him on the radio.

Or the likes of Hugh Keevins lambasting him and quickly judging him after one league game in charge? What was it he said? Now we know what ANGE stands for – Absolutely Not Good Enough.  Likewise the rest of his fellow hacks who ridiculed him and questioned his ability to handle the goldfish bowl that is Glasgow, and Scottish football as a whole.

That’s despite Ange Postecoglou having boasted many years of experience not just in club football, but also at international level with Australia whom he led to a World Cup finals in 2014, and a year later won the Asian Cup.

Those very same folk are now welcoming Ange’s former pupil with open arms, showering him with unequivocal praise and backing him to succeed in Scotland.

Muscat whilst having a decent track record doesn’t boast the same pedigree as Ange. Indeed his only venture into this continent as a coach ended in disastrous failure, yet funnily enough it’s been literally airbrushed as he’s treated like the second coming of the messiah.

We’ve always known how two faced and pro any Rangers the SMSM are, and this is yet another timely reminder to those who claim otherwise.

Amusing Post Update: Gerrard and Muscat both rejected the chance to be the next manager of theRangers who have now appointed former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.
