English Premier League side Southampton sent scouts to watch Liel Abada at Hampden on Saturday. The Israeli winger came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock, which sets up a Glasgow Derby Final against Rangers on February 26th.
According to a report from the Daily Record, Nathan Jones’ side sent representatives to Hampden to see the winger.
Daizen Maeda was reportedly on the end of interest from the Saints. However, it appears that they were at Hampden to see Abada. The 21-year-old has been a sensation since arriving in the summer of 2021. The player has scored 24 goals and assisted 15 times in 83 appearances for Celtic so there is no surprise that teams are interested in signing him.
Abada, who Celtic are keen to tie down to renewed terms, will be hoping to get himself back in the Starting XI. The Scottish Champions must act in this regard as deals stalled with Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis and both appear to be set to leave the club this January.
Southampton have enjoyed the Scottish market in recent years with Fraser Forster, Stuart Armstrong, Virgil Van Dijk and Victor Wanyama all joining from Celtic. However, Rangers sold Joe Aribo to the south coast club proving that they are a club that pay an awful lot of interest in what goes on in the Cinch.
