Premiership club not planning Celtic raid, according to report

Hibernian will not look to poach Celtic’s John Kennedy to Easter Road. The 38-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Edinburgh side for a few years now as an option to launch his managerial career and there was a suggestion that Ron Gordon may look to persuade Kennedy to take the top job at Hibs.

As reported by The Edinburgh Evening News, Ange Postecoglou’s Assistant Manager is not being considered for the top job at the Capital club. However, Kennedy is deemed to be too inexperienced and too close to ex-boss Shaun Maloney to be considered.

As a result, Hibs will be looking at UK-based candidates as they eye experience for their new manager. Kennedy has worked through the ranks at Celtic progressing from scout to youth coach, to first-team coach, and eventually to Assistant Manager. He will hold aspirations to progress and hold the top job at Celtic one day; however, he will realise that Hibs is not an appropriate match for him – especially given the alarming lack of time and resources Maloney was afforded in his brief stint.

It is a boost for Ange Postecoglou and Celtic that the former defender, who had his playing career cruelly taken from him, will be remaining at the club. Postecoglou is just part of the way through his plan to rebuild the club from the decade of dominance and put his own stamp on the club. Kennedy is extremely highly-rated and will, inevitably, attract interest but for him to remain and work along with the boss as Celtic near the league title – having already won the League Cup.
