So we can clear one mystery up this morning, Morton were the one and only club out of 42 to vote against the introduction of VAR into the Scottish game later this year. The system will be introduced after the break for the World Cup and will be a feature of all subsequent game in the Scottish Premiership and more than likely the cup games and the Hawk-Eye system will be paid for by the top flight clubs on a sliding scale with the Champions paying most and a sliding scale following to the bottom of the league.
There has been miscellaneous posts on social media alleging that it was theRangers who voted against it, some even suggesting it was Celtic – the club that looks like paying the most for VAR but is likely to benefit the most! You can see why supporters would believe that theRangers might be against it as if operated properly then it will eliminate some if not all the on-going honest mistakes that seem to always go their way.
That ‘Penalty to Rangers(sic) graphic might end up not getting used quite so often on Twitter, or at least it will have to get rescinded maybe half a dozen times a season.
In the Greenock Telegraph Morton bosses explain why they voted against VAR saying “Fans at foremost of our minds” but they didn’t even ask the fans Morton fan Louise Rodgers pointed out in reply to another fan who stated: “This is why a lot of fans haven’t joined, they’re doing things without consulting the members.”
Craig Dunning added his thoughts: “They’re spot on, it undoubtedly does ruin the viewing experience for fans in grounds who’ll be stood around for minutes at a time with no idea what’s happening. Fully agree that they should have carried out a proper consultation with fans though.”
“Typical Morton lol,” another supporter added.
“Morton will be proved to have been right of course,” Celtic fan Slimshady stated.
It was Morton that voted No for VAR, surely as a community club the MCT members should of been consulted then a vote rather than the board making the decision 🤷♂️ 🤔 pic.twitter.com/OVTN4iq86P
