Taylor reveals Callum McGregor’s rousing post match message after Hampden loss

Greg Taylor was the unlikely goalscorer for Celtic on Sunday as he looked to fire Ange Postecoglou’s side to the Scottish Cup Final. However, a Scott Arfield goal forced the game to extra-time before Carl Starfelt’s diverted a Bassey cross into the net to seal the victory for Rangers. It was a sore one to take for Celtic, especially as Rangers didn’t overly threaten.

The game ended and as the Rangers players celebrated wildly with their supporters, the Celtic players appeared to lethargically salute the Celtic end, who had put on another excellent display. However, before they could begin their brief appreciation of their supporters, Captain Callum McGregor huddled the players around and delivered a rousing message, despite the loss. Speaking to Celtic TV, Taylor said that the captain decided to use that opportunity to remind the players that there was still an objective to secure.

“It did hurt for a few days but with football, you have to move your focus to the next game. It was about regaining focus and knowing how well we’ve done so far, but there’s still a job in hand.”

Anyone that watched on would be able to see the passion which McGregor exhibited at full-time with his colleagues, urging them to use this feeling and propel them onto having the last laugh with the Premiership trophy returning to Paradise.

Celtic are five games away from the end of the season, hold a six point lead over Rangers as well as holding a +19 goal difference. The league title and the attached financial rewards that come with a Champions League  Group Stage place confirmed.

The skipper has really grown into the role since succeeding Scott Brown as Celtic’s captain. The 28-year-old has been the focal point of Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, constantly pushing his team onto new heights.
