PSG’s large loan fee and Kurzawa’s high wages scare off Celtic

France International left-back Layvin Kurzawa could have been quality signing, but doubts over his fitness plus PSG wanting a large loan fee plus Celtic to pay all his substantial £100k per week wages means that it’s another January no-go.

“Forget the loan fee and knock a zero off the end and we’ll consider it,” might well have been the Celtic response!

Celtic, as we all know, are on the look-out for a new left back as we go into the final hours of the transfer window. One name that’s been heavily linked in the last day or so is PSG full-back Layvin Kurzawa. The former French international is available on a loan deal, and while at 31 he would bring a vast of experience and talent to the side, his fitness is a major concern.

Kurzawa has been successful with PSG and of course played for France which is no mean feat, but he’s only played a handful of games this past year. Indeed the past few years he’s hardly played any first team football at all, with injury curtailing his playing time.

So while he’s a proven player with quality experience, he isn’t exactly up to speed and we need players to hit the ground running. I’ve no doubt he’d be a quality addition. He plays for PSG, he’s won trophies, and has a ton of champions league experience, and has represented France at full international level. He’s obviously top drawer, but question marks over his fitness are a major concern.

And with PSG asking for a large loan fee and for the club to pay his substantial wages there’s no chance that this will interest Celtic.

Meanwhile Mikey Johnston is having a medical at West Brom ahead of a loan move and Celtic are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for veteran winger James Forrest. Don’t be surprised if the Prestwick Bhoy ends up back in south Ayrshire at Ayr United with his former Celtic teammates Aiden McGeady and Scott Brown.

What a brilliant servant James Forrest has been to Celtic and if he heads out on loan we’ll all want to wish him the very best of luck.
