Pundit suggests Arsenal could lose former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney in a huge transfer this summer

When Man City were still growing as a club they used to poach plenty of players from Arsenal, but that transfer route has died out in recent years as the two clubs have drifted further apart.

Celtic fans will be fully aware that Kieran Tierney has everything you want to play at the highest level, but a lot of supporters and pundits down south were still on the fence.

He’s more than proved himself over the past couple of years with his quality and attitude, while the only thing that’s really holding him back is injuries but he’s also hopefully over those.

It means that he could be a target for the elite sides in the summer, and a report from the Sun has indicated that Man City could look to bring him in.

Left back is the one position that they’ve never really managed to find a long-term solution for, so Tierney could be a top quality signing if they pull it off.

Admittedly the claim does come from Barry Ferguson so make of that what you will, but he does suggest that Arsenal may want to get him signed to a new deal as soon as they can:

“If I’m Arsenal I’m getting him and tying him down. Because if I’m a Manchester City or something, I’m looking at a player like Kieran Tierney – that’s how good I think he is.

“I’ll be honest with you, I just love everything about Kieran Tierney. I think he’s gone up a couple of levels since he’s made the move.

“I always thought he was a very good player at Celtic, there was no doubt that he was going to move to the Premier League, but he’s gone down to Arsenal and gone up a couple of levels.

There is no official confirmation of the percentage but Celtic are thought to have a sell-on clause for Tierney so that could benefit them if he goes for big money, while it could also open up a huge conversation with the national team.

Andy Robertson doesn’t play like he does for Liverpool on the international stage and Tierney signing for Man City would give him some added legitimacy as if it’s needed, so Stevie Clark would have a serious decision to make.

From a Celtic point of view it’s brilliant to see him doing so well, while the club can also use his success in negotiations this summer for players like Eddy and Ajer to drive the price up.
