Mark Warburton has denied that Bright Osayi-Samuel has agreed a pre-contract deal with anyone as speculation around the 23-year-old continues. The Nigerian winger is out of contract in the summer meaning he is free to negotiate with clubs outside of England now; however, former Rangers boss Warburton said that it was just speculation.
Speaking to West London Sport, Warburton joked that the player would need to have an up-to-date passport if the links in the media are to be believed.
“Apparently he’s going to Celtic and Fenerbahce and Rangers as well. I hope he’s got a good passport.
“It’s all rumours and it keeps the media going. My only concern is Bright working hard, training well and performing well.”
Celtic and Rangers can sign the player for a minimal training fee but Fenerbahce are believed to be in poll position to sign the attacker.
The player was the subject of a £5m bid from Club Brugge and despite Warburton accepting the offer, the player decided to reject the chance to move to the Belgian Pro League. The Loftus Road side may be willing to strike a deal now that would get them some value in the player who has impressed this season with three goals and three assists in 20 Championship appearances.
Celtic have already been in touch with Ben Pearson of Preston North End about a pre-contract as they prepare for next season. Celtic’s other main targets in the January window will surely be a central defender and a right back as they plan on mounting a dramatic recovery against Rangers to win the SPFL Premiership for a tenth successive season.
