Raith Rovers captain Kyle Benedictus has said that his team are looking to put the sideshow of the last few weeks to the back of their minds as they travel to Celtic Park tomorrow. David Goodwillie’s signing from Clyde in the January transfer window prompted a storm across the country, which has resulted in the Kirkcaldy club losing a number of individuals, including sponsors.
The Raith hierarchy then decided to backtrack on the decision, confirming that the striker would not play for the club. The backlash and subsequent furor have resulted at football taking a backseat at Stark’s Park. Although, Benedictus has said that the Scottish Cup clash against Celtic can offer an escape from what had been going on away from the pitch.
As reported by The Sun, Benedictus said that the team are preparing for the clash and looking forward to another appearance at Celtic Park.
“As players, we have tried to be as professional as we can. Since the start of the season the goal was to get promoted and that’s not changed.
“We are preparing for each game and Celtic will be no different. We are professional. We come in every day and train and work hard.
“We’ve got the gaffer and myself and the rest of us working as hard as we can on the training ground and the goal is to get us promoted.
“We just stick together. We go and work as hard as we can. We have this game coming up.
“Personally, I don’t think you can play at a better venue and it’s something to look forward to. So we’ll try to put things to the back of our mind and go and give our all.”
The sides met in September with Postecoglou’s side winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Jota, Liel Abada and David Turnbull. The cash generated from the split gates will bolster the coffers of the Kirkcaldy outfit, even if it means that the money will be used to pay-off Goodwillie.
