Rangers midfielder thanks Celtic support in wake of Slavia Prague racism incident

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has thanked the Celtic support after receiving messages of support across the Glasgow divide. Aamer Anwar, Kamara’s solicitor, told BBC Radio Scotland today that the Finland International was ‘overwhelmed’ by the responses from Celtic fans.

The Celtic support have, on the whole, supported Kamara in this sickening episode of racism rearing its ugly head again in football. Anwar, who was The University of Glasgow Rector, spoke on behalf of Kamara and thanked Celtic fans.

“He also wants to thank the fans and the clubs, who put aside football rivalry to support him and stand united against racism.

“He was overwhelmed by the support that he received from Celtic fans. People sometimes forget, because of the intense rivalry that we have in this city, that people actually were able to come together. That is an important message, and it’s something we can take away from this and learn from.”

Anwar is one of Scotland’s leading defence solicitors, dealing often with cases which protect the integrity of the rule of law, the rights of the minority and challenge institutions.

Celtic stand against all forms of bigotry, racism and sectarianism and it was pleasing to see Scott Brown represent the club in showing that it is unacceptable. Hopefully this instance can spark condemnation of all unacceptable abuse going forward.
