Cameron Carter-Vickers did not take part in today’s training session at Celtic Park today ahead of the team heading to Glasgow airport for the club’s charter flight to eastern Germany for tomorrow night’s Champions League group stages tie against RB Leipzig.
That absence from training strongly suggests – but does not confirm – that Carter-Vickers will be missing tomorrow alongside his usual central defensive partner Carl Starfelt. And that would most probably mean that the understudy partnership of Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz will be at the centre of the Celtic defence tomorrow night.
There’s better news though from the pictures from today’s training which you can watch below via Sky Sports. Giorgos Giakoumakis, who missed the game against Motherwell at the weekend was back in training today so should be available for selection tomorrow night and Liel Abada also trained with his involvement yet to be decided, by the player himself, as we have outlined earlier today.
But it is the central defensive partnership that is the biggest cause for pre-match angst amomg the Celtic support. RB Leipzig have lost their first two matches and will be desperate for the win over Celtic that would set them up for a great chance to get through despite their two losses. For Celtic a draw wouldn’t be a bad result as our best chance to get an away win has probably already passed us by in Poland.
A win in Leipzig would however be awesome! COYBIG!
