The Celtic manager is looking to improve his squad in three key areas before the end of the transfer window. on top of bringing in a replacement for Carl Starfelt . According to the usually reliable Stephen McGowan at Scottish Daily Mail, Rodgers is looking at adding another goalkeeper, a left back and a left winger.

Brendan is also wanting to add a new centre back with Swedish defender Gustav Lagerbielke rumoured to be close to signing as a replacement for Carl Starfelt who yesterday concluded his move away from Celtic to sign for La Liga side Celta Vigo.  So you’ve got to assume that’s a total of four new faces arriving before the start of September, if all goes to plan.

That is positive news with for Celtic Supporters with Champions League football only six weeks away. New faces for that competition is a must if we want to compete with any degree of confidence that we can provide European football after Christmas as the basic objective.

A few faces will also likely depart so soon enough Brendan will have a settled squad as we get down to the serious business domestically and on the European stage. With the side competing in four competitions, not only has the squad depth got to be good, the quality has also got to be of the highest possible standard, within the club’s financial structure and business model.

It’s great that Brendan is looking at strengthening these key areas of the team.  It’s no surprise as it’s areas we are lacking quality depth in. Although I’m surprised he’s looking at another left back and that is likely to call into question the future of Alexandro Bernabei. The Argentine is apparently in the bad books with Brendan this week, but how serious remains to be seen. The arrival of another left back would appear to spell bad news indeed for Bernabei.

  1. If we’re still looking for a LB that would suggest that Rodgers would like to play with a back 4 moreso than going for the 3CB option.
Regardless what Rodgers opts for, a higher standard has to be produced with playing out from the back, especially within CL football.
It still remains a weekness within the team especially against the high press where our defenders can be pressurised into mistakes to easily still imo.
A decent keeper with the ball at his feet will hopefully improve matters, yet remain unconvinced by our current full backs, even more so with AJ missing currently.
What we can get away with within the SPFL, we will get exposed within the CL.
Must admit to be a bit disappointed for that issue not to have been addressed and resolved before now to be honest

  2. If we are potentially looking for another LB that would suggest Rodgers intends to play with a back 4, instead of opting for the 3CB defensive.
With AJ missing, still remain unconvinced by our full backs with playing out from the back?
Of course a better keeper than Hart with the ball at his feet, should improve matters hugely.
What we can get away with, within the SPFL, we still stand to be punished and exposed within CL imo, as thing’s stand currently.
Must admit to be a little bit disappointed at this area within the team hasn’t been addressed or resolved yet, especially with the season already started and CL not to far away either

  3. if we are looking for a left back its because the two we have are nowhere near good enough. taylor far too small as is bernabeau and neither are strong enough physically

I would sooner play ralston or iwata at left back than either of these. if rodgers persists with taylor as first choice in the cl we will get embarassed again

    • Greg Taylor at lb is a wee boy up against men who constantly brush him off or past him. Ross County’s second goal and many other examples prove he must be replaced. Can’t believe anyone can’t see this.

  4. Right now celtic need a good keeper a good rated stricker with HO injured hopping kyogo doesn’t pick up a injury special withe the games coming up I know we have players that can fill that space but there potion needs to be filled not ideally something that I would want them to tray out don’t see way Rodgers was looking to bring in another midfielder need to get things sorted players bedded in ….WE ARE CELTIC 🍀 HAIL HAIL 🍀 WE NEVER STOP 🍀 WE ARE CHAMPIONS THATS WHAT WE ARE 🍀
