Reliable source says Celtic to net nearly £1m from Champions League result

UEFA competition can be an extremely confusing and difficult concept to fully grasp due to the rules and sheer volume of teams involved across three competitions. However, fortunately for Celtic supporters, @Moravcik67_ on Twitter is on hand to update as developments across the continent occur.

Notably, as Champions League Qualifiers continue tonight one result could end up netting Celtic nearly £1m by way of the coefficient payment. Macabbi Haifa duly thrashed the Greek side 5-1 on aggregate, which could have an impact on the ten-year club coefficient table.

The tweet reads:

“Olympiacos were pumped out of CL qualifying tonight. As they were ranked above us on the 10 year coefficient, the result should mean Celtic get an extra ~£950,000 or so from the coefficient payment.”

Moravcik67 will likely update as to what this means as it becomes clear as to what teams will make up each of the three competitions.

It would be a welcome payment but aside from it, the club needs to capitalise and make sure that results are positive in UEFA competition. Currently, Celtic are 51st in the club table. Performances last season in the Europa League were impressive and there had been high hopes dropping into the Conference League. Albeit, the results against the Norwegians were sobering to say the least. The manager has commented on how he wants his team to play against the best teams in Europe in the hope that his style can still get results even at the highest level.
