The recently formed Celtic Fans Collective, a united voice for over 400 Celtic fans organisations including all the big supporters Associations, has reacted to yesterday’s dreadful result at Tynecastle that left Celtic trailing Hearts by eight points in the Scottish Premiership…
The Celtic Fans Collective posted this short message on social media earlier today:

“What we witnessed yesterday was the result of repeated failures in the transfer market. This will continue until there is change at the Club – in both structure and personnel. Celtic fans have the power to force that change by staying united and taking action. Not Another Penny…”

The comments to this update are as always interesting as Celtic supporters have their own say. Let’s take a look and I’ll add some comments to each contribution from Celtic supporters. There’s clearly a call from a number of supporters to add Brendan Rodgers to the protest banners but that’s surely not the point of what the Celtic Fans Collective are trying to achieve…

“Correct the major issue is the board yet some people have fallen into a board manufacturing trap of blaming Brendan.” (Exactly).
“Correct when backed last season the goal haul was the highest In 50 Years. We made Champions League progress and a fortune from his development. The following two windows we’ve come out weaker. He’ll push back on this Board, I’d much rather that than another Yes Man.” (Agreed).
“Repeated transfer failures? By who? Did Rodgers not blow £10million on two players who both play the same position! Both of them away to AFCON in January? Did Rodgers not know that also?” (Note: Jota is out for the best part of the season and Brendan Rodgers fully expected Daizen Maeda to leave at the end of August after the Champions League qualifier, that’s why two left wingers were targeted).

“Literally a £6m defender on the bench.” (Spot on, a huge mistake by the manager yesterday).
“The manager hasn’t won a big game since the League Cup Final on penalties…” (Surely Thursday night’s win over SK Sturm Graz can be regarded as a big game, but outside that you have a point).
“In his third season last time, the football was the same, dire sideways, backwards it’s time for you Bhoys to send him an open letter saying it’s ok to go this time, thanks for the last two years, but if you care you will go now, he is in the same position as Neil Lennon staying too long. It’s gone.” (And the alternative, selected by this board will be a yes man, who will be happy to continue with their strategy).
“Nothing changes until fans make the sacrifices needed. No renewals, no HCTS, no four new strips, no euro tickets, no Larsson or merch. That’s how you do “not another Penny”. How many will be at Hampden on Sunday?” (It will be sold out).
“What we witnessed yesterday was the car crash we knew (well some of us knew) was coming, our form in 2025 has been deplorable, one of the many reasons was selling Kyogo in January and not replacing him, the rest is down to a mess of a summer transfer window.” (Selling Kyogo was fine, he wanted away and there were also signs that he was past his best, the failure to replace him should be enough to ‘sack’ someone on the board).

“Even if this was true, which it demonstrably isn’t, considering the players we have successfully sold for huge profits, why can’t our “top class manager” compete with Dundee and Hearts who have inferior squads? You’re letting him off the hook.” (Focus of the campaign has been agreed by the collective voice of the Celtic support and it’s seeking change in the way the club is run. Rodgers will be away in the summer anyway unless they sack him).
“The team has chipped in with Not Another Point.” (That’s true, sadly, their own ‘campaign’ needs to end on Wednesday night though, enough is enough).
“We’ve got to involve everyone and let them know They’ve had their time They have ripped the heart out of our club. Back in the 1990s we had high profile figures like Joe Beltrami leading the protests. We could be doing with something along those lines. Keep together.” (The strength of the Collective is that it speaks for so many fans organisations, supporters clubs etc. Unity is certainly important).

“We need younger fresh faces and modern thinking from the boardroom to the manager to the playing staff. The current lot have crashed and burned. Time for change is long over due.” (Fresh thinking needed in the Boardroom and in the choice of the next manager, hopefully we get the former so that they can choose the latter or we’ll just repeat the cycle again).

Don’t forget that part of the sales patter to entice new talent to our club is letting them know by coming to Celtic will put them into the shop window for clubs in the more lucrative market of the English leagues.
The board are very well aware that they use that selling tactic so they are fully aware that any new potential signing, if they turn it on for Celtic, are not going to be staying in Scotland for very long. And yet the board still fail to prepare for such a scenario when they sell our best players.
This is an opinion, boarding on total lies, that I can’t buy into whatsoever.
Prefer to look more upon the facts of the changes made since January this year, on a footballing sence that haven’t worked out to beneficial for ourselves. Not buying into this promotional view that the board are making footballing decisions for Rodgers whatsoever imo?
Last January only 3 changes were allowed to be made to our CL squad.
Schulpp as another loan deal to replace the Barcelona loan kid.
Palma getting replaced by jota.
Kyogo allowed to move on, with Maeda as a replacement, and a returning Kenny to boost our homegrown quota requirements.
Still left ourselves 7 attacking options, which still remains Rodgers preference within his squad building process.
Welsh allowed to go out on loan, getting replaced by recalling Murray.
So with Murray as a B team listed player, either a squad or 23/24 in place for ourselves.
Still a squad that was able to run bayern close, despite ourselves struggling to carry only 2 injuries within the squad.
The signs of decline were also very relevant in way to many SPFL matches also, but got overlooked with winning the title so easily. Still couldn’t motivate a team to complete a treble all the same.
So when you actually look at the changes made, during the summer, along with the decision making process involved, then a totally different story can be concluded imo.
Doohan for Bain
Tierney for Taylor
Saracchi for schulpp
Murray for newrocki
Kelchi for Idah
Balikwisha for kuhn
Seb to cover for jota
Still allowed for nygren to be added as the extra midfield option, that was badly missed last season.
Doberg for Maeda didn’t happen, and possibly for the best, as things stand within our squad imo?
So still able to name a 24 man europa league squad in place.
Leaving a position open for a potential return of jota?
Even with serious injury doubts within a few within the 24, still a place available if needed, especially now with the CCV injury, along with a few others where the long term injury could occur.
So who is actually to blame for such a decline?
Don’t believe that the actual changes, should be bringing such a decline in performance levels, to the degree that they currently are at.
Even our homegrown quota, should be regarded as stronger, especially with Welsh only on loan, and Donovan progressing as a B list player currently, and not the only one in the making either hopefully.
Still added a few so called development players in the making, but our record of developing players outside of initial squad players remains at appalling levels.
That is something that highlights how rotten our coaching levels are at, which is becoming more evident within our 1st team squad and overall structure.
So the changes in theory, shouldn’t be as poor as what is getting promoted.
What is getting overlooked is just how much of a decline has happened within our 16/17 squad players from last season?
What is the actual excuse with only scales able to preform anywhere near his expectations?
If such signs are of Rodgers currently carrying out a decent job, then I’m not seeing it whatsoever.
I do believe that our players are not playing anywhere close to there potential, and certainly not on any form of a consistent basis.
As I couldn’t care less about the workings of a board, and won’t entertain the amount of greed involved within a PLC. Then not going to let that element of the club, have the impact it currently has within so many of our support at present.
