Report: Celtic competing with Liverpool, Spurs and Man Utd for Irish youngster

Celtic are reportedly competing with a host of Premier League clubs for the signature of St Patrick’s Sam Curtis. The 17-year-old made his debut two years ago and has progressed into an Ireland U21 with performances at right back for St Pats.

As reported by 90Min, Curtis is being tracked by Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur along with the Scottish Champions. The report continues that he is expected to leave the club in the LoI off-season.

Curtis made 39 appearances last season, attacking from the right back berth as St Pats finished 3rd and won the FAI Cup. Curtis has been included in the PFAI Team of the Year and was nominated for the Young Player of the Year accolade. The attraction to the Premier League will be attractive for the Dublin-based youngster; however, Liam Scales is a recent success story coming from the League of Ireland and making it with Celtic – albeit, somewhat fortunately.

Celtic currently have Alistair Johnston and Anthony Ralston competing to play at right-back but the promising youngster could act as another option for the future. Brendan Rodgers has already said that he is seeking to add quality to the squad and trim the bloated squad. Whilst he accepts that the club has a model of buying and improving players to sell on, he may believe that efforts are better reserved to focus on left-back and striker reinforcements.
