Report: Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wanted by Premier League side

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly wanted by Nottingham Forest to replace Ange Postecoglou. The Australian manager was dismissed shortly after the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon leading to speculation over who would take over at the City Ground.

According to Football Insider, Rodgers is expected to be included on Forest’s shortlist as the Irishman looks to navigate the troubled waters at Celtic Park this season.

It is claimed that Rodgers will likely be sounded out over the job, especially given his record at Celtic, Leicester and Liverpool. The Forest job appears to be a poisoned chalice with Evangelos Marinakis running the club however he sees fit. The firing of Nuno, hiring of Ange and subsequent sacking of the ex-Celtic boss have only amplified the autocratic picture of the ownership at the City Ground.

Rodgers is in the final year of his contract at Celtic and has indicated that he loves managing the club. With that said, no new deal has been offered and this has only added to the feeling of instability at the club.

The Athletic report that Sean Dyche is the leading contender for the role and has held talks with the Forest hierarchy. Roberto Mancini turned down the role after initial talks but it remains to be seen whether Rodgers will be in contention. Fulham manager Marco Silva appeared to be another favourite for Forest but the issue of compensation appears to be an issue for Marinakis due to PSR concerns.

Brendan has insisted that he will be at Celtic for three years, at least, and you would expect him not to be interested in moving midseason again. The Celtic boss needs to help stabilise things at the club and that can be achieved by getting the team firing again.

  1. While I sincerely doubt very much he would be on their radar, I certainly hope he is! I also hope he takes his little band of infants with him! The ones who think they are “grown ups” and Celtic supporters”
