Report claims Celtic target Fraser Forster set to be offloaded by Southampton

CELTIC could very well see Fraser Forster return to the club in what has been a tiresome and anxious saga. A deal for Forster was on and then it was off, then on again but off again shortly after. Supporters had their hopes pinned on him but a flipflop from the 32-year-old appeared to collapse the hope of the big goalie coming back to Parkhead.

However, the Daily Express have claimed that the Saints are prepared to drop Forster when they evaluate the squad following Sunday’s finale of the Premier League.

Forster is undoubtedly top of the wishlist for Neil Lennon as the club go for an unprecedented 10 successive titles in a row. The 32-year-old Englishman rejected a loan return to Celtic preferring a permanent move but now Saints are focused on moving up the league table and not about transfers.

Celtic had been previously linked with David Marshall and Joe Hart should a move for Forster fail to transpire but Vasilis Barkas appears to be the frontrunner in Celtic’s pursuit of a new club No.1. AEK Athens are reportedly after 5m Euros but the Celtic may be forced into a decision in the coming days about whether to proceed with a move for Barkas or perhaps returning to Forster.

Vasilis Barkas has become one of the club’s top targets

Earlier this month, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl was quoted as saying that he was not going to make any decisions until they finished their own season. As reported by Glasgow Live.

“I don’t concentrate so much on the transfer market to be honest.

“I know we have some targets but it is such a busy time, I have to focus on getting a performance from my team and the opponents we are facing.

“It costs a lot of energy at the moment to find the right game plan. You can imagine if you are playing teams like City and United you need a perfect game otherwise you have no chance.

“So there is a lot of preparing, especially with two or three days between games.

“My scouts are giving me some information in the players that are of interest to us, we are busy in the background.”

One way or another, there will be a conclusion to the Fraser Forster to Celtic saga in the coming days and hopefully it results in the big goalie making a permanent move back to Paradise.
