Report: Club source dismisses Gordon Strachan DoF speculation

Writing for The Scotsman this afternoon journalist Andrew Smith, has provided an update on the Gordon Strachan speculation that re-emerged overnight linking the former Celtic manager with a return to the club as Technical Director or Director of Football.

Smith confirms that this story is a non-runner having discussed the matter with a club source today. Here’s what The Scotsman has reported on the renewed speculation this afternoon…

Meanwhile, a club source has dismissed speculation Gordon Strachan could be in line for the technical director position as Celtic’s revamp their football department around new manager Ange Postecoglou. Strachan currently operates in the role for Dundee, while son Gavin’s future as a current coach at the Parkhead club has yet to be clarified. Both Gavin Strachan and John Kennedy will assist Postecoglou as the club’s pre-season training begins tomorrow, in preparation for the Champions League second round qualifier against FC Midtjylland. The Glasgow first leg will take place on July 20, with the return eight days later.

The link to the Director of Football job is several weeks old, having been discussed as a supporters meeting, as we reported on here. The spotlight returning to the rumoured Celtic appointment today was mixed with plenty disagreeing with bringing Strachan back to the club to work alongside his son, while many were quite pleased and noted that he’d done very well in the transfer market given the limited budget he had at his disposal.
