Liverpool could launch a bid for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard after Leicester City opted against a move for the Frenchman. Merseyside outlet Liverpool Echo are stating that Jurgen Klopp’s side may target Edouard as an attacking recruit ahead of the new season.
Edouard has just twelve months remaining on his deal and Celtic will be acutely aware of losing him on a free transfer next summer. The player seems keen on an exit after four years in Glasgow. Having joined initially on loan from PSG, Edouard diligently worked away and became a mainstay in the Celtic team after convincing the club to pay £9m to the French side.
Despite a quiet season by his standards, Edouard scored 22 goals and bagged 6 assists over the course of the season. He was starved of quality assistance and often cut a dejected character as the season ended in misery. He would certainly be interested in a move to Liverpool, especially given the chance to play in Europe and compete for trophies, something he is used to from Celtic.
The Glasgow club should be looking for around £25m for their prized asset with Liverpool actually picking up a bargain when you consider some of the fees in English football.
With 55 league goals in three seasons, Edouard has proven himself to be an excellent operator and his goals will be hard to replace. Although, if Celtic do not get their fee for Edouard then potentially letting him go for free may make sense. If Celtic win the league next year, there is automatic Champions League qualification, meaning that the club could make an enormous amount but Ange Postecoglou will need the best players at his disposal to do so.
Could be could good bit of business first hatrick
All forgotten
We went for Edouard a while ago but he didn’t want to be back up to front 3. We need to prioritize moving Origi on so we can give him more reason he will get game time. He is a good striker and right age needs to be playing and we need a quality striker for depth.
Take £22 million and get him gone ASAP.
