Report states Liel Abada has not rejected Celtic contract offer

Liel Abada has not turned down a contract offer from Celtic, contrary to speculation. The Israeli winger scored twelve times and assisted on five occasions as Ange Postecoglou’s side stormed their way to a Treble; however, there were suggestions that this summer would see the promising attacker seek pastures new and wouldn’t be agreeing to an extension with Celtic.

Although, as reported by Football Scotland, Abada has not rejected a new deal as terms have not been offered in recent weeks. The 21-year-old is under contract until 2026 but his impressive goalscoring form has resulted in speculation that the Scottish Champions would offer new terms to get tie him down to Celtic.

Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail had stated that Abada had turned down Celtic’s overtures as he looks to engineer a £10m-plus move this summer. Albeit, you would expect that any young player worth their salt would look at the arrival of Brendan Rodgers and ask themselves is this an opportunity that they want to pass up given his track record with young players.

Celtic will continue to improve this summer and if that involves selling players that are keen on moves away, the club have shown with Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic in January that they are willing to do this. The club have signed Odin Thiago Holm and are nearing a move for Marco Tilio, who is predominately a right-sided winger. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Abada will be away but given that Jota, Sead Hakšabanović and Daizen Maeda are naturally left sided players, the club will want to strengthen on the right.
