Kyo-no-go – Brendan Rodgers determined to hold onto Celtic’s star striker

Brendan Rodgers is determined to hold onto Celtic’s star striker Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japanese international was signed by his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou and has been the focal point for this Hoops team over the past two years now. Forking out over £4.5 million for the explosive little buzzbomb in the summer of 2021, he’s cemented a place already as one of the modern greats.

This past season he managed to finish the cinch Premiership’s top goalscorer ahead of Kevin van Veen of Motherwell, who recently moved to the Eredivisie with Groningen. The former Vissel Kobe attacker managed to hit the back of the net 34 times this campaign and it’s claimed by Football Insider that Rodgers is determined not to lose the star forward.

The report also makes the claim that the Bhoys are in dialogue with Kyogo and his agent over extending his deal which runs out in May of 2025. With 54 goals in a mere 83 appearances in the green and white jersey, it’s no wonder both Rodgers and the club are keen to tie the elusive centre-forward down on fresh terms to ward off potential suitors.

The same article claims Burnley have been sniffing about, whilst Crystal Palace have been mentioned in the past. However, the biggest fear for Celtic supporters is if his old gaffer Ange Postecoglou comes calling to take him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Such a move could prove difficult for the club to talk the diminutive striker out of.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
