Reports: Bayern set to poach Celtic youngster

Despite no football likely to be played any time soon, that isn’t stopping speculation regarding future moves. According to the Scottish Sun, Bayern Munich are preparing to move for Celtic youngster, Barry Hepburn. Any potential move would be the second time that the Bundesliga Champions have raided Celtic having swooped for Liam Morrison to join their U17 side last summer.

The report claims that Munich are plotting to raid the Scottish Champions again with Hepburn tipped to link up with his ex-Celtic teammate. The 16-year-old has a year remaining on his youth contract but talks to sign a professional contract appear to have stalled.

The winger is expected to join Miroslav Klose’s U17 side in Bavaria as he apparently favours a move overseas.

Central defender Morrison departed the Glasgow side last summer and has taken to life in Germany. Speaking to the Herald back in October, Morrison said that the intensity of German football means he needs to be fitter.

“I play with the Bayern Under 17s at the moment. It’s a regional league, but we play in the Bayern Campus and the stadium is magnificent. We get a good attendance to watch us even at this level. And we get to go to all the home games too so that’s brilliant because the atmosphere in the Bundesliga is magic.

“From my experience at Celtic, the training is very similar. Possession, shape, trying to get a balance. But at Bayern the intensity is different – it’s forward, forward, forward, running and being super fit.

“It was a big, big move for me but it was also hard for my family and my little brother, who is missing seeing me every day in the house. But it’s good to see them all when they come over.”

Hepburn will need to keep Morrison’s experiences in the back of his mind before committing to a move to Germany. It appears to be a massive decision for the youngster to make, especially given the uncertainty surrounding ‘normal’ life.
