Reports: Celtic Battle for Highly Rated Youngster

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Celtic are tracking Gillingham youngster Jack Turner. The 20-year-old has reportedly been scouted since the start of the year by Celtic’s Nick Hammond; however, there are a number of teams watching the progress of the defender.

Brentford had a bid of £1m rejected in January and it is expected that it would take up to £1.5m to prise him away from Steve Evans’ side as he has a contract until 2023. Turner has made 35 appearances this season and could be one to watch for the future for the Scottish Champions.

Nick Hammond is reportedly battling with Rangers, Aston Villa and West Ham for Turner’s signature; however it is unclear as to whether Neil Lennon’s side will move for Turner with Stephen Welsh coming through.

Hammond has excelled at signing young players since arriving following Lee Congerton’s exit. Hammond has helped secure signing like Frimpong, Hammond, Connoll, O’Connor, Afolabi and Hjelde.

It is testament to his work that all highly rated youngsters in England can see the progress of Jeremie Frimpong at Celtic as a pathway to the first team. Frimpong arrived with little fanfare from Manchester City’s reserves and has impressed whenever he has been called upon.
