Reports – €3,5m Celtic bid for AEK Athens keeper Vasílios Bárkas

REPORTS are emerging that Celtic have stepped up their efforts to sign an alternative to Fraser Forster and have now made a formal bid for the AEK Athens goalkeeper and Greek International Vasílios Bárkas.

“Long-time interested Celtic have submitted an offer of 3.5M + 1 bonus to AEK for Vasílios Bárkas (26), according to Sportime. The Greek club are hoping for 7-8M for their goalkeeper, who are close to a deal with Celtic on their side.” Football Grec France is reporting.

AEK Athens are set to sell their star keeper in order to provide the club with much needed funds for their own transfer priorities this summer. Informed sports journalist Stephen McGowan at the Daily Mail broke the news at the start of this month that Celtic had enquired about Bárkas and had been quoted a price of €5million.

If Fraser Forster wants to be back at Paradise for this season and behind then he’s going to have to make his intentions known to Neil Lennon pretty quickly or he could find that it’s Vasílios Bárkas who is going to be the first pick Celtic keeper.

The quoted bid fee of €3.5m with a €1m bonus for AEK (presumably paid if Celtic reach the Champions League) might be enough to get the deal done but there is bound to be haggling and further twists in this story yet. It’s never easy, is it?
