Reports Suggest Celtic Could Be Lining Up A Cut-price Deal To Sign Elyounoussi On A Permanent Basis

According to reports by the Football Insider, Celtic are preparing a summer swoop to re-sign Mohammed Elyounoussi on a permanent basis as his Southampton price tag is thought to have crashed to just £5m.

The Premier League outfit had wanted £8-10m for the Norwegian international last summer but could not find a club willing to pay that amount and eventually loaned the player back to Celtic. The Football Insider revealed that they have an understanding that Celtic may look to take Elyounoussi on loan for a third time next season, whilst his value is expected to tumble as he enters the final two years of his contract. Such a plummet in valuation could mean that Celtic instead make a move to obtain the player on a permanent basis.

The outlet claimed that a recruitment source told them this information, which would mean that Elyounoussi’s value would stand at less than a third of the £16m Southampton paid Basel for his services in 2018.

Moi has been in and out of the Celtic side but is the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in 31 matches for the Hoops. The Bhoys are almost certain to finish the league campaign in second spot and the left winger could be key to reclaiming the trophy next season as he boasts a record of 20 goals and 12 assists from 53 games across his two campaigns in Scotland.

Elyounoussi ended his first loan season at Celtic in the SPFL team of the year despite missing months of the campaign through injury. He made little impression during his short time at Southampton though, and looks unlikely to be up to the desired level for the Saints.

  1. Our best run of results (the second half of last season) was when he was out with a long term injury – if signing this guy is a example of our preparation for next season then God help us.
