‘Respect’ World Cup winner shares Celtic praise to 26.2m Twitter followers

Mesut Özil has shared his respect for the Celtic supporters after the fans defied the club’s request and showed support for Palestine ahead of Wednesday’s game against Atletico Madrid. The ex-Arsenal and Real Madrid star took to Twitter to share a clip of the pre-match scenes from the UEFA Champions League fixture, where Celtic fans sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and the flags of Palestine were displayed around the ground.

The crisis in Israel and Gaza is a Humanitarian Disaster and Özil has joined the Celtic support in demanding a ceasefire for aid to be provided. The Green Brigade have been vocal in their support for Palestine and the situation in Gaza has resulted in many taking issue with their beliefs.

In the game itself, Celtic were excellent but couldn’t seal all three points despite going ahead twice through Kyogo and Luis Palma before the Spaniards hit back through Griezmann and Morata. The teams will meet in a fortnight over in the Spanish capital with Brendan Rodgers’ side hoping that they can take something from the game and keep their hopes of football after Christmas alive.
