Roma eye Leicester striker, could Brendan Rodgers return for Odsonne Edouard?

Jose Mourinho is chasing a striker to join him at Roma with Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham currently pondering a switch worth £34m. However, the Englishman has hesitated on committing to a move to Serie A which has meant that the legendary manager has had to identify other options. Sky Sports are reporting that Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho is a target for Roma.

The Nigerian striker scored in the Community Shield Final win over Manchester City but Mourinho thinks that an offer could persuade the former Manchester City striker to join him in Italy. This could potentially mean that Brendan Rodgers could reignite his interest in Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard.

The FA Cup Winners were in talks with Celtic with the view to setting up a deal to reunited Edouard with former Hoops boss, Brendan Rodgers. However, Leicester identified Patson Daka as an alternative to Edouard after the deal appeared to stall. The RB Salzburg striker arrived as a perceived successor to Jamie Vardy meaning The Foxes stalled in their pursuit of Edouard.

The French striker could be back on Rodgers’ radar if he is tempted into cashing in on Iheanacho. Rodgers signed the player back in his second season at Celtic Park and rates Edouard highly. As it stands, you would expect Celtic to be willing to deal with any club if they paid around £15m upfront for Edouard with a few add-ons attached. Leicester could see Edouard as a shrewd investment, something they have become accustomed to in recent years.

The 23-year-old has been with Celtic since 2017 after joining on a season-long loan from PSG before sealing a £9m deal the following year. Edouard has scored 84 goals and assisting 39 times, impressing since taking over as Celtic’s first-choice striker. Kyogo Furuhashi’s signing suggests that Edouard’s dates in the Hoops are numbered but you’d hope he would have a positive destination to head for. Edouard scored in the win over Dundee on Sunday but Furuhashi took the headlines with an impressive hat-trick.
