Celtic’s Kasper Schmeichel has been included in UEFA’s official Team of the Week, following on from his wonderful display against Bayern Munich. The Great Dane was in sensational form in the Allianz Arena, as he rolled back the years at the ripe old age of 38-years-old.

Schmeichel’s experience and nous have been crucial and invalaibale to Brendan Rodgers and the club at this level, and has been paramount to the Hoops getting a play-off place by finishing in the Top 24. At various points throughout this season in Europe, Schmeichel has been called upon to help the team in our hour of need and has ultimately stepped up every single time.

Against Slovan Bratislava in the opening gambit of our adventure in the UEFA Champions League group phase this year, the big goalkeeper made a cracking save at 0-0 to keep us from going behind and was a seminal moment for us. His performances against Leipzig and Atalanta reinforced the necessity for a top operator between the posts and he’s carried that on in the whole competition.

His pivotal stop late on in the BSC Young Boys match, which prevented a catastrophic result that would have hampered our European progress, highlighted just how important having someone like Kasper is at this level yet again. Then his Bayern Munich heroics were really he cherry on top, as he pulled out all the stops to prevent us from losing on the night. It was particularly cruel on the former Leicester City man when Davies scored with a tackle!

Here’s that UEFA Champions League Team of the Week that Kasper has been included in:

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
