Dermot Desmond surely impressed by Brendan’s Bhoys in Munich

Celtic biggest shareholder Dermot Desmond was in attendance at the Allianz Arena last Tuesday night, as he watched the team go full steam ahead against Bayern Munich…

The Irishman was snapped sitting next to Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson, and would have no doubt been as proud as the rest of us at the fight Brendan Rodgers’ team put up.

The billionaire is rarely seen when it comes to being present at Celtic games. Apart from the obvious ones like cup finals and flag days, Desmond isn’t around all that much – something he had been widely criticised for amongst the support. Desmond and Nicholson were snapped in the directors’ part of the stadium, alongside Celtic’s Finance Director Chris McKay.

The evolving development of this Celtic team under Brendan Rodgers

What they bore witness to must make them stand up and take notice of the evolving development of this team and Brendan Rodgers’ ability to get the very best out of what he has. There was discontent once again in the January transfer window when we sold Kyogo Furuhashi to Stade Rennais and never replaced him, although we had a long and protracted saga with Brondby over Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Kvistgaarden was probably an interested spectator via television and might fancy joining Celtic after seeing the quality of Brendan Rodgers side taking Bayern Munich all the way.

This summer feels like a sliding doors moment

This summer feels like a sliding doors moment of what could be and if we don’t do it know, it’s unlikely that the men upstairs ever will. That decision, of course, will be largely down to Dermot Desmond and what he thinks the best road of travel should be. However, it is strange when you consider the man that made his fortune by taking risks and seeing the potential in projects, doesn’t see our future in Europe.

Yes Celtic has to work within a restricted budget in comparison to the other clubs from the top leagues but Brendan Rodgers has shown it is possible and in doing so he has strengthened his case for more support this summer.

Brendan Rodgers deserves to be backed this summer

Surely this year’s brilliant campaign will change Dermot’s mind and we can see the squad strengthened considerably in the summer. That’s also how you make sure that the manager stays at the club.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. All the smart arses need to remember this man is highly responsible for keeping Fergus McCann’s dream alive today!
It’s easy to sit back and accuse people of not sinking billions of pounds into the club when they themselves find all sorts of reasons not to invest more than an odd match day ticket!

  2. We never seemed to get a break from refs I understand in the spl that’s been happening since as long as I rember and im in my sixties but Europe maybe it’s the big league always gets the breaks then again we had enough time to defend it ten minutes before the goal same player made the same run one of midfielders lost the runner might have been tired but we were warned
