Motherwell’s Declan Gallagher is hoping to seal a sensational move to Celtic, according to a report. The Daily Record are claiming that the Scotland Internationalist wants a move to the Scottish Champions this month as his deal with current club Motherwell means that should he play six more games, he will automatically trigger a one-year extension.
Gallagher, 29, started his career at Celtic before moving to Clyde then Dundee before Livi. An off-field incident probably hampered any hopes of Gallagher reaching the top of the game but through hard work, he has moved onto become an integral part of the Scotland National Team under Steve Clarke.
Whilst there is no quotes from the player, Gallagher appears to be hoping to secure his future and a move away from manager-less Motherwell. Celtic are in need of a new central defender with Christopher Jullien ruled out for at least four months with a knee injury. Shane Duffy’s Celtic loan deal will also expire in the summer meaning a rebuild is on the hands of the recruitment team.
Gallagher joined the Well from Livingston on a two year deal back in 2019 and has impressed. He wouldn’t be the first player to come to Celtic in his early 30’s with Paul Hartley coming to mind and impressing despite being ‘on the wrong side’ of 30. Gallagher was on the scoresheet versus Celtic earlier this season and if his performances haven’t flagged up the interest of Celtic then questions need to be asked of the recruitment team at Celtic.
