Scott Brown labels SFA’s decision to ban Ryan Christie as ‘laughable’

Coming out of last week’s Glasgow Derby, the biggest talking points were Celtic’s terrible performance in a 2-1 loss at home against the Rangers and the gestures that Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent had made towards the Celtic fans during the game. Ryan Kent had made ‘gun signs’ while celebrating his goal while Morelos made a ‘throat-slit’ gesture towards the crowd after being sent off. It was expected that at least the Colombian would get a hefty ban from the SFA for his actions.

But instead, it is Ryan Christie who has managed to get himself banned in the aftermath of the event. The Celtic star was hit with a two-match ban by the SFA for “an act of brutality” as he appeared to grab Morelos’ groin region after being nutmegged by the Colombian. It is impossible to say that it was a deliberate attempt from Christie though and in all probability was just an instinctive grab in order to stop Morelos from making any further progress past him.

As reported by the Irish Mirror, Scott Brown said:

“Now you’re going to have to watch where you put your hands when you tackle people, like with penalties now, you’ll have to have your hands behind you.

“We don’t want everyone phoning up the SFA and people getting pulled up.

“We need that consistency and the club have done the right thing by sticking up for Ryan because we all think it’s laughable.”

The ban though is not going to have any effect on Christie’s participation as he recently underwent surgery and was expected to miss the next two games anyway. On the other hand, Morelos and Kent are yet to be banned for their actions. Make of that what you will!
