Sensational report claims Celtic have opened talks with Roy Keane

Celtic have reportedly opened talks with Roy Keane about becoming the new manager of Celtic, according to Football Insider. Keane fell in the betting markets yesterday and now the outlet has claimed that Celtic are speaking to the Irishman as they search for a replacement for Neil Lennon, who left at the start of this month.

Keane has been touted for the role of manager with a number of ex-players suggesting that he would be a revelation for the Parkhead club. The 49-year-old is reportedly interested in the role and if the report is to be believed, Celtic are going against the majority of fans wishes who wanted a return to a modern approach, implemented by Brendan Rodgers.

The former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder has been widely linked with the vacancy despite not having held the position of manager in over a decade. The Ireland legend has been Assistant to Martin O’Neill with Ireland and Nottingham Forest. He has most recently been a pundit for Sky Sports and whilst his rants have been humorous, you have to wonder whether the legendary midfielder has what it takes to be successful in the dugout given the seismic changes in football management in the last decade.

Keane made just 13 appearances for Celtic, scoring once before he was forced to retire. Keane would help Celtic complete a double that season with the League Cup and League, his last as a player. The outspoken Sky Sports pundit has a good relationship with Dermot Desmond and Desmond wanted him to become Neil Lennon’s replacement in 2014 but no deal transpired.
