Martin O’Neill is reportedly being sounded out regarding the next Celtic manager by major shareholder Dermot Desmond. O’Neill is one of Celtic’s most successful managers of recent times with his reign at the beginning of the 21st Century signifying a power-shift. Sixteen years after he left the club, Football Insider are reporting that the Irishman will help Celtic identify and appoint a new manager to reclaim the league title.
Eddie Howe, Rafa Benitez and a number of other candidates have been mentioned. However, Celtic will know that they need to make a statement with a new manager and reaffirm their place in Scottish football after this poor season. Hopefully O’Neill’s only role will be advising the board on their candidates instead of a hands-on role. The club may look to a big name with no connection to the club.
The Irishman came to the helm in May 2000, leaving Leicester City, and enjoyed five years with the club. O’Neill earned legendary status with his team as they battled against Rangers to make Celtic the prominent force in Scotland.
Celtic will hope to make their decision on a DOF in the next few weeks before appointing a manager, lifting fans ahead of the close season and into the new campaign.

Surely the board have enough about them to find their own guy?.. or maybe not.
The only member of the board with any knowledge is PL and as he is on his way out I’d rather he did not have any influence on who is appointed after the Lennon appointment.
It was done all wrong and we suffered for it.
