Sensational stats as Celtic’s Turnbull leading European chart

David Turnbull has been one of Celtic’s brightest sparks in what has been a torrid season. The midfielder has played 29 games, scoring eight goals and notching up six assists but Football Wonderkids on Twitter, the account which monitors up-and-coming stars in the game, has detailed 76 key passes this season, beating a number of future stars like Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho or Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

It was almost by chance that Turnbull made his breakthrough in the Europa League ‘dead rubber’ against Lille. Since then he and Ismaila Soro have given Celtic’s midfield a new lease of life and despite the league appearing over, he is a reason to be hopeful for next season.

The midfielder was the subject of interest from Neil Lennon’s Celtic last year in what developed into a transfer saga. The player was even pictured in a Celtic top with Neil Lennon doing his interviews before a rare knee injury was found in the medical and forced to call the move off.

Nevertheless, Turnbull endeavoured to keep working in order to get fit again and he reaped the rewards as Celtic came in for him again. This time, there was no issues with the medical and the Scottish Champions sealed a deal bringing the Scotland U21 international from Motherwell to Paradise.
