‘Shane knows the significance of the ten’, ex-Celtic hero makes big Shane Duffy prediction

MARK MCGHEE has predicted that the Celtic supporters will love Shane Duffy not only for his performances on the park but also because he knows how important this season is. Celtic are one title away from sealing 10IAR, a triumph that would eclipse the record set by Jock Stein in 1974 and McGhee believes that with this kind of prestige, you need to count on supporters to help seal success.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, the former Celtic hero, who was part of the Centenary double-winning side in 1988, reckons that brining Duffy in will work wonders for Celtic as he loves the club and knows what it means to the fans.

“When the stakes are this big, history is there to be made and things get very tribal, it’s good to have players who know what it all means to the fans.

“That’s why Lenny will be delighted to get Shane here now, of all seasons.

“Like James Forrest and Callum McGregor, Shane knows the significance of the ten — he gets it in a way that Boli Bolingoli clearly doesn’t.”

Aside from Duffy’s emotional attachment to Celtic, McGhee believes that his performances on the park will speak for themselves.

“Shane is aggressive and will attack the ball in both boxes. He’s a big, strong boy and he’s fearless, but there’s more to him than that.

“He also has decent pace plus Brighton don’t sign players who can’t pass it. I think the Celtic punters will love him.”

Duffy will be a top addition to the Celtic side. As a Celtic fan and experienced Premier League player, Duffy will be able to give a nasty streak to club’s defence, allowing Neil Lennon to play 3-5-2 as well as knowing that the Irishman won’t struggle against long balls.

With all things considered, our team is stronger than it was this time last year. Barkas or Forster may be debated but the Greek goalie is a Celtic player whilst Forster is back at Southampton. Ajeti and Klimala are a better pairing than Bayo and Griffiths in the rankings behind Odsonne Edouard. Not to mention last week’s signing David Turnbull. Sign a left back and another winger and the club will be in a very good position to win the coveted prize of 10IAR.
