Sheffield United make £8m move for Celtic-linked goalkeeper

Sheffield United are preparing to make an £8m bid for Anthony Patterson as they look to secure the highly rated goalkeeper. Celtic have been linked with the Sunderland stopper as they hunt for a replacement for Joe Hart.

According to The Sun, the relegated Blades will look to take Sunderland’s No.1 as they prepare for life in the EFL Championship. Former Rangers goalie Wes Fotheringham has failed to impress and Chris Wilder is after a new goalie.

Patterson has four years on his deal and, as a former England U21, the goalkeeper could command a greater fee than that proposed by Sheffield United. Celtic had been linked with the player as they hunt a replacement for Hart, who will retire at the end of the campaign.

Hart’s signing from Tottenham in the summer of 2021 was a masterstroke and his experience coupled with his quality made him a favourite at Paradise. Alex McCarthy has been linked with a move but the Southampton keeper is no doubt preparing for his side’s second leg Championship Play Off Semi against West Brom before deciding his future.
