JACKSON IRVINE will leave Hull City at the conclusion of his deal after he failed to agree a deal with the Championship club to extend his contract. The Australian started his professional career at Celtic before a move to Ross County after failing to breakthrough at Celtic Park.
Irvine has been an impressive presence in the middle of the park for his last three clubs – Ross County, Burton Albion and Hull City. It is a blow to Hull that he is leaving and it’ll likely be for another Championship side.
Irvine played 36 games this season for City, scoring twice and assisting twice, but Hull have confirmed that he will be leaving the club.
Irvine is a free agent with international pedigree, who knows the size of the club and could potentially interest Neil Lennon should any of his key players be tempted away by Premier League offers.
Irvine has 34 caps for Australia and can operate either in an attacking role or deeper defensive role.
Celtic will likely look to other areas to strengthen before looking at central midfield. However, should someone like Olivier Ntcham leave the club, then there is a huge void to be filled.
Neil Lennon is beginning to prepare for club’s 10IAR campaign and will be eyeing up replacing those that have be already left the Scottish Champions.
Irvine is of a high calibre and free agents will be a hot commodity this summer; however, it is unlikely that Neil Lennon would want to re-sign Irvine unless there is a loss of one of the current midfielders.
