Show Little Englander your Medals KT – “Tierney? He’s a Scot, so he’s used to failure”

Condescending talkSPORT pundit spouts drivel about former Celtic Star Kieran Tierney…

Simon Jordan of talkSPORT has made an astonishing claim as to why Kieran Tierney will not become the next captain of Arsenal. Jordan is co-host in the morning with resident Jim White to talk all things football. There is on occasion decent debate around the pertinent issues in football when the Englishman can contain his snobbery.

That was not the case today as he slipped straight back into the condescending know-it-all that he is with a loaded attack on Kieran Tierney and Scottish football in general. Tierney left Celtic in the summer of 2019 for a club-record fee of £25 million which enabled Neil Lennon to spend money on his new team.

Tierney became a sensation at first at Arsenal when they realised his commitment and leadership qualities that were apparent at Celtic for several years. The left-back brought a grit and powerful dynamism to the left full-back position that hasn’t been seen in years at the Emirates. This prompted an instant bond between the player and the Arsenal support.

Sadly, Tierney’s time in the English Premier League has been marred somewhat by injury – a theme that popped up just before he left Celtic for pastures new. Some have cited this to be shrewd on the part of the club who knew the player was injury prone and would spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines if he remained.

However, Jordan in his quintessentially English view on things, asserted that Tierney would not become Arsenal captain because he is Scottish bizarrely! claiming that he is too used to failure and that is not what Arsenal will be looking for in a captain. Has Simon forgotten about all the trophies Kieran won whilst at Celtic Park?

He said: “Tierney? He’s a Scot, so he’s used to failure, I’m not sure if that’s the leadership qualities we want.”

Utterly ridiculous, prompting host of the show, Jim White to retort: “Kieran Tierney, I hope you are listening to that, come in here, anytime you like, and brain him.”

I’m afraid Mr Jordan is talking out of his backside on this point. Tierney would be an excellent Arsenal captain if chosen to be the bedrock of that team. If half the players in it showed the same passion and desire as our former academy bhoy, they wouldn’t be in the state they find themselves. It would have even been a rational argument to say he won’t get the gig because he is not a mainstay in the team presently.

It just goes to show the pig-headed image the English have of themselves, especially when it comes to football. Kris Boyd moment for Simon there!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. All day long the best choice we have. Ramsdale has the mindset but I am not a fan of goalkeepers as skippers, Tierney is proven from his time at Celtic. Tierney would never do what Aubamayang apparently has,

  2. Shouldn’t that be reported as racism ? ….or is it because Scots still have a degree of humour left that allows it ?

  3. I live in Crawley England I’m Scottish but lived here for 30 years so anti Scottish about football it’s unbelievable
