One of the names strongly linked with Celtic this past week or so has been Vinicius Souza of Lommel in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. The defensive midfielder has a plethora of options available to him as he looks to move on to bigger things in the game, whilst developing his game further.
There have been murmurings that the former Flamengo man has reservations about moving to the Scottish Premiership as he has being cited as wanting to move to the ‘highest possible level’ in the game according to various reports. This has given Celtic a thing or two to think about regarding any transfer for the Brazilian.
Now Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has confirmed this to be the case, with the 22-year-old uncertain if moving to Scotland would match his development plan and level of ambition.
Anthony Joseph gave Celtic fans an update via Twitter in regards to Souza:
Celtic are interested in Lommel SK defensive midfielder Vinicius Souza but face competition from a number of clubs, including PSV, Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Bologna.
PSV made a formal approach to Lommel earlier this week.

It’s understood the player wants to play in Europe next season, but has some reservations about moving to the Scottish Premiership.
However, he is keen to take time to explore all his options.

If Souza does in fact feel this way then perhaps Celtic would be best served finding an alternative target to fill the midfield void. As Ange has stated before, nobody should need to extoll the virtues of Celtic Football Club, nor do we wish to.
The youngster should be aware that club’s like ours don’t come calling this early in your development everyday. The chance to win trophies in front of an adorning fanbase of 60,000 a week, combined with a chance to showcase his talent on the grandest stage of them all – the Champions League – should be enough to make him rethink his situation.
The grass isn’t always greener elsewhere Vinicus.
Be careful what you wish for, because it might just come true.
