Transfer Latest – Celtic close to completing Seigrist deal

Scottish Sun have claimed an exclusive that Bejamin Seigrist is close to completing a move to SPFL Champions Celtic. Seigrist had been rumoured to be attracting interest from the Parkhead outfit after he left Dundee United as a free agent in June. In the last week talks had been instigated by the two parties over a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

SunSport are now reporting that the goalkeeper is close to signing on the dotted line. The 30-year-old is wanted by Ange to challenge Joe Hart with the number one shirt, with Scott Bain not trusted fully to keep the Englishman on his toes. With Vasilis Barkas moving to Utrecht on-loan this past week, it seems as though the manager has wasted no time in procuring an able replacement.

The Swiss ‘keeper has been one of the standout performers between the sticks in the Scottish game these past few years, prompting links with both Celtic and the Ibrox side. However, with theRangers skint and unable to sign players until they have sold ones, it looks like the Hoops will beat them to the punch with Seigrist.

Benjamin did have offers south of the border with both Preston North End and Blackpool interested in taking the stopper to the lower tiers of the English game. But it now looks apparent that Ange will get his man and in the process may be able to send young – but highly rated – Toby Oluwayemi out for some much needed game time.

It looks like we might have our next signing of the summer folks.

About Author

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
