Footballing icon Thomas Muller cannot wait for Celtic tie and reckons Bayern Munich underestimating the Scottish Champions would be a grave error for the Bundesliga giants…

Celtic play Bayern Munich in the Champions League
The two-time Champions League and World Cup winner is relishing the prospect of heading to Glasgow to face Celtic once again as he and his Bayern teammates target a place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
Celtic welcome Vincent Kompany’s side to Celtic Park next week before Brendan Rodgers’ men head out to face the German giants six days later at the Allianz Arena for the second leg as a reward for finishing 21st in the new 36-team format.

Muller relishing prospect of playing at Paradise
Muller featured and scored in Bayern’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Celtic in the Champions League group stages in Germany eight years ago. However, the 35 year-old midfielder missed out on a dream opportunity to play at Celtic Park in the return group match because of an injury.

Although the current Bundesliga league leaders avoided reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City in the draw last Friday, Muller, writing in his weekly column in the German media (via The Herald), insisted it would be wrong to write off Celtic’s chances of progression.

Muller warns against underestimating Celtic
“The draw has given us Celtic. Anyone who underestimates the Scots has never seen them at Celtic Park,” he stated. “The atmosphere is amazing – it will be a real highlight for me. I am really looking forward to the game. Obviously, we wanted to get straight into the top eight in the Champions League. That was our clear goal. Unfortunately, we missed that.

“We are now looking forward and Celtic in the play-offs are waiting. We have to deliver. And if we do, after that, either Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid will be next for us. So put your beer on ice! February will definitely be an exciting month for football.”

Celtic still have two fixtures prior to their mouthwatering clash with Bayern Munich next week – starting tomorrow night against Dundee at Celtic Park in the rescheduled Scottish Premiership clash where the Hoops can extend their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.
